Here are the ORCSD School Board updates published in Durham Friday Updates and school emails this week:

Oyster River School Board News for April 20, 2022

124 Oyster River 8th grade students will leave Saturday morning for a trip to Washington, D.C. This opportunity is resuming after 2 years’ hiatus. This is the largest group ORMS has ever had participate in this trip.

The school board will consider school day start times for fall 2022 at the May 4 meeting. The preliminarily proposed start times are 9:00 for K-4th grades and 8:15 for grades 5-12. Under this proposal, elementary students would ride separate busses from middle/high school students, and the “late bus” option for after-school activities would return for both ORMS and ORHS (currently only available to ORHS students based on activity schedules).

The summer REACH program still has limited space available in various programs. Camp information and registration uses the Durham Parks & Recreation registration system. Go to https://durhamrec.recdesk.com/Community/Program and select “Camps” as the category filter. REACH camps run the weeks of July 5 through August 4, 2022 and will be held at Mast Way School. Details for MTSS and Credit Recovery summer programs are still being finalized and will be announced in May.

Senator Maggie Hassan and Representative Chris Pappas visited the new Oyster River Middle School building on April 20 for ribbon-cutting of the solar array at ORMS. The event featured excellent tours of the new building’s sustainability features delivered by 5th grade Glacier Team students. Thanks to teachers Sara O’Brien and Kyra Dulmage and all Glacier students!

96 ORHS students are enrolled in Career & Technical Education (CTE) classes in Dover, Somersworth, and Rochester for fall 2022. This is a significant increase in the number of students taking advantage of these course offerings.

Spring Break runs April 25-29, 2022 with all Oyster River schools closed. Classes resume on Monday, May 2, 2022.
